Havejust seen your website, truly amazing. I went to your school from 1955-59 and learnt NOTHING. The head teacher was Mr Govier (I used to take him his lunch on a tray to his house next door), Miss Kick, and another. More to follow! Sue

Whilst browsing l have had the good fortune to come across your site. Lady Modifords, that brings back many memories. l attended this school many years ago 44 to be exact. Whist there l had pleasure of having Mr Govier has headmaster who lived in the school house for a short while and then he retired and Mr David Reed took on the role of headmaster, a true gentleman and a fist class headmaster. At my time with the school many changes were being made, the playground and the building of the swimming pool and also sadly the lost of the village youth club that burnt down one night. l find your site well presented and its good to see that the school is still being looked after.

Hello everyone!
The newspaper you made was fantastic! I guess I'm gonna have to switch from the Tavi times to the Walkhampton Gazette.

It said in an article, called "School uniform-good or bad?" I think that question has a number of answers... this is good way to show an argument!

I hope that everyone is having fun and I also hope that the Rugby was a great !

Hello everyone
I've just started a-levels at Tavistock College, it seems like so long ago that I was sat in Walkhampton Primary School and now I've done my GCSEs and am doing my a-levels how scary! It's all hard work but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Oh what I would do to go back to primary, such minor worries and stresses. Hope all is well and that the school is as great as it always was. A big hello to all the teachers too.

Special hellos to all the children that I taught while I was Deputy Head and the Class One teacher. What a super site. I went to Walkhampton school from 1967-1974, my brother and sisters all went there as well {6 of us}. As did my mother and uncles and aunties. They were called Chubb, we were Holland's. We used to walk to school from Brook Sampford Spiney, about 1 and 1/2 miles away. I also have a school photo taken back in about 1968, when we all had to wear school caps. These caps were provided every couple of years and you had to wear them. Anyway hope you find this interesting, best wishes to the school - Peter Holland

Hi guys.. We were just sitting around reminiscing about the old school days in England. So we jumped on the net and looked up our old school! We had been trying to remember where the entrance to the hall was. Sounds pretty silly but we could not for the life of us remember! Wow well this sure brought back some memories. Oh and the entrance to the school hall dilemma was solved ;) Anyway cant believe it has been almost 10 years since we left bound for New Zealand, even more unbelievable is that some of the teachers names are still familiar! I, Louise have finished with my schooling now and am taking a gap year to travel, might even be heading back to the homeland so I may get to see first hand the entrance to the hall! And me.. Amy I'm in my final year at school, however unfortunately, I am planning to head straight into uni next year so it will be a while before I step foot on the homeland again, but rest assured I will.
Well it's been awesome seeing the old school again (still the same uniforms I see!) Have a good one!

No one will know me except Mr. Knight, Mrs Crossley and Mr Crosby, the latter two whose children, I taught! I was headmaster before Mr Knight, a very long time ago, in fact between 1970 and 1986! It was during my time that the swimming pool was built and the school first visited Mathieu.

I discovered your website by chance - by just entering the words 'Lady Modiford's', and I think it is superb - well worth finding -keep up the good work.
Good luck, Mr Knight in your retirement - I can thoroughly recommend it, although I enjoyed my time at Lady Modiford's. Good luck to you all!

I was really interested to visit the website (and I think it's very good) as a long time ago, from 1957 to 1961, I was a pupil at Lady Modiford's - and now I'm a headteacher! I used to live at Welltown Cottage and walk across the fields and down the road to school every day. Each year every boy in the school was given a school cap to wear (I forget what the girls got!) paid for by the money left by Lady Modiford. The caps were navy with light blue rings on them.
The school that I work in now is very different from yours: there are 470 children and we can see the sea from the upstairs rooms. Our site is www.king-charles.cornwall.sch.uk
Thankyou for your comments Tim. We look forward to visiting your school site

Lovely to see our grandson on your website, many generations of the family have attended this lovely school.
It would be nice to see some of the ancient school records feature on this site. There are some eye opening comments in the old school records. Being provided with shoes/soup etc.

(WEBMASTER) If you have any material we could include, please send it into school, to Mrs Wilson

Hi! Man, it's great to see the old school again. Hope you're all keeping well! This is by far the most amazing school I've ever been to. I feel proud to have been part of its rich cultural heritage. Or something. But anyway! For all those who're interested, I'm in Year 12 at Devonport High for Boys, doing Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Art (I like maths, in case you hadn't guessed...) and I still remember the good times had by all at Lady Modiford's. Nice work with the website!
Thanks Ralph! (Webmaster)

I did my final year teaching practice at Lady Modiford's in 1995 and have wonderful memories of my time there. It was literally a pleasure from beginning to end, and I was greatly helped in my development as a teacher by Jim Knight and by my supervising teacher Liz Hill (Class 1). The school has a warm and friendly atmosphere, and is a real part of the community. It is great to see it go from strength to strength, and I wish I could work there again!

A really good website with loads of good content.

We thought that having pictures of the staff painted by the children was a really good idea, perhaps some big companies should do the same. We only hope that they don't all really look like that.

Actually Bernie, we do! (Web-Manager)

At last I have found your web page! I was a pupil at Lady Modifords from 1963 until 1969. In 1969 we celebrated 250 years. I played Lady Modiford in a production about her life. It would be lovely to hear from anyone out there who is also a past pupil. Glad to see the school is still doing well. I'm proud of you!

What a great website. My Grandfather who was the headteacher at Walkhampton for many years would have been very happy with the way the school is today. He was the headteacher until 1970 and the last to live in the school house where my father Robin Govier was bought up. I now live in North Yorkshire and I made a visit to the school on the last day term. For many years my Dad always used to talk about his best friend Toby who he had whilst living at the School house. Toby was a Collie dog. Even after all this time 50 years on the stone my Dad had made for his Pal is still there to be seen in the playground. The site and its pictures are very nice to see. I like the pictures of the staff best. Very good well done.
